Ambition Trip 2009 - Part 2

January 24, 2009 by Alex Blais

In case you haven't already, check out Part 1 here!

First session at the plaza done, the group split up and went back to their respective lodging to relax and take a bite. Phil, the designated van driver, and I, the one with the credit card, were in charge of getting a generator for the night session to come. After taking a short rest at Emil's, we headed down the road to the Canadian Tire, a huge convenience store here in Canada. After walking around with Phil, completely confused with all the French written signs, we ended up finding the generators. And then we both saw it, what we though would be the ultimate light source... A battery powered spotlight. Happy with our find, we both got back to the apartment, picked our stuff up and met up with the other guys. They had actually found a nice park set up by snowskaters, which was pretty fun to ride. We showed the other guys our ultimate lights, and everyone immediately doubted. And they were right to do so, as these lights were as crappy as they could get. Luckily, we found a power outlet near by and were able to plug in some spotlights for the session. Only Alan got a trick down, but it's definitely one you will want to watch a few times in a row! We all went to bed around 1am, ready to hit up a sick spot the following day.

The second day, me and Phil got up early to bring the lights back to Canadian Tire and get a real generator. We all drove up to the Blainville Skate Plaza that day, which of course ended up being as icy as a spot can get. Discouraged once again with the awful conditions, everyone felt it was a laust cause. Me, Phil and Justin decided to go back to our favorite store, Canadian Tire, and buy a bunch of shovels, icepicks and pickaxes. These ended up working great and within an hour, some obstacles were skatable. We started the session with some double kink ledge action.

So after a while, we knew we had to move on and take advantage of the natural lighting we had that day, simply because there was so much to hit over there. Crowcroft ended up setting up a nice ollie-on flat ledge, which he sessioned with a few others, while the rest of the team was fooling around and having a good time.

After that session, we all headed out to eat and get ready for an epic night session. Everything looked perfect, and we were hoping to get a few more tricks on tape that night. Of course, something always has to go wrong. We started setting up the generator, and evidently me and Phil had forgotten to put some oil in there. The generator went on, but stopped after a minute or two, and was completely broken. We then had to hop back in the van and try to exchange it at Canadian Tire, saying it was defective. When we took it out of the van, we accidentally dropped it and the full gas tank poured out and into the box. It smelled very nasty and our chances of getting it exchanged weren't too convincing. We cleaned it up a bit, and went to the front door. An electronic problem prevented the door from opening more than 12 inches, which evidently wasn't wide enough to fit the generator. We had to wait outside, until a worker fixed the door. We finally got in and headed right to the customer service. The lady immediately pointed out that our generator smelled very weird, but never even opened the box. After a while, we ended up getting a brand new generator for free. An hour later, we got back to the plaza and set up the generator. This time, everything worked great. The boys had been freezing outside, waiting for us, so everyone quickly got to work and set up the 4-flat-4. After a wild session, everyone went back to the van except Phil, Justin, Alan and all the filming crew, which had other plans: the handrail. An epic session went down... Unfortunately pictures will come later! We wouldn't want to spoil too many tricks!

Although it was freezing outside, the session went great and we filmed a bunch of sick tricks. When everyone was done, the whole team was thanked for their patience with free all you can eat McDonald's. We ended up ordering for close to 100$, and freaked out the new cook. The second day was a great, although we had to work very hard on fixing the setups, but in the end it was all worth it.

The rest of the trip was awesome, as we continued stacking some bangers all over the city. Sorry for the lack of pictures or description, but we want to make this video as exciting as possible for you guys!
