COSD's 08-09 HD Edit
(my very first HD edit delivered to you live on the best snowskating site in the whole wide world!)
As years fly by and as I try to find my way into adulthood, I come to realize that someday I'll become 30 and it inevitably scares me because I know deep inside that with the kind of abuse my body takes every winter, I'll probably be stuck with arthritis and suffer from chronic pain. Even though this might seem a little pessimist and premature, it is still a thought that frequently comes to my mind and worries me, but you know what? As soon as those little magical snowflakes start accumulating and transforming the urban landscape in a limitless playground, I get overwhelmed by an intense feeling of inner peace while losing all sense of reality, and believe me my friends when that crucial time of the year goes round I couldn't give less of a crap of what's awaiting my in 5 years or so. During that time of the year, even though I don't have the exact numbers, I will most certainly throw myself down a variety of stair sets and gaps a couple hundred times, I'll work my ass off day and night cumulating numerous hours of shovelling just to get some new setups done, I'll walk from spot to spot with my gear and burn calories like a marathon runner, and of course chances are I'll suffer from a couple bails, but regardless of all that stress my body endures, I still cant quit and I still need my snowskate fix on a daily basis. Why? will you ask me? Well it's a little something stuck inside your chest called passion, and for the lucky individuals like me who have found one, no matter what it is, it It can grow so strong and make you feel so empowered that you'll be ready to make sacrifices such as committing yourself fully to an activity or a sport that can be harmful for you in the long run. The morale to this blurry speech might not be obvious to the naked eye, but to conclude this paragraph I'll quote Mr Josh Seguin that once said (after taking a nasty bail on a gnarly flat bar we set up last season) : '' Pain is temporary'', but ''fame is everlasting'' may I add. Now I wont give you the whole ''pursuing your dream'' 101 and that kind of psycho pop pep talk, what I mean to say here is that dedication and motivation are the key ingredients to achieve great things and the progression of snowskating is definitely one of them in my book.
Ok well once again I got carried away and made a sentimental fool out of myself so please excuse my ramblings, but let's get back on track now and talk about the main reason why I wrote this blog: my first official HD final part edit... So here's the deal: until very recently, my weapon of choice in terms of editing was Adobe Premier cs3, and unfortunately that little bugger did'nt accept HD files. However, feeling a desire for technological advance, I wanted to step it up a notch and start exporting HD clips from my Canon HV 20 footy, so I finally decided to act like a man and start using Vegas 7.0 in order to prove that I don't live under a rock and that I can use modern day technology just as the next guy. Turns out the transition went pretty well, and after editing a couple clips from my trip in Vancouver this summer, I thought I would give it a go and edit my final part with the high def clips. With all the shadier program functionalities aside, the trickiest part to it was to sort out all my footy and determine what was keeper material and what wasn't, but once all the clips were aligned properly on the timeline, the editing just went like a charm.
Next thing up was to pick a song, and my choice finally was a track from DJ Gabro which I think really suits the footage I gathered last year. Unlike Matt Plays in LTDU with his fast editing style, I went for something a little smoother with more slow-mos and crossfades and all that, and a big addition this year has been the post prod animation (I think they call the trajectories?) which allowed me to put a little life in that all-tripod medley. I have to say it took me a little while to get it done and fix the little glitches, but in the end I finished it, added "fancier-than-ever" titles and exported the final version. The end result in my opinion is not bad at all (gotta stay humble you know) and even for those of you who have seen my part in True Color, I still think it'll be an interesting watch because a lot of my tricks had to be left over in the final cut due to length restrictions and an excessive amount of fisheye shots in my part (and god knows it looks pale compared to Mr Stefani and Mr Triplett's filming prowesses).
Except from that, I forgot to mention that all of the footage in the edit you're about to see is from my HV 20 and since I wanted an all HD edit I decided to scratch the tricks I had that were filmed by Nick even if the way they came out. This pretty much sums up the editing process I had to go through, but now that I've wrote a novel already, I think it’s time to let you guys watch my footy, for the first time and HD, and before I go I just wanna say that I am currently writing an introspective and thoughtful season recap article full of anecdotes and pictures and fond memories, and if I can squeeze enough time to work on it, it should be done in a week or so.
Alright boys and girls!! Now just sit back, relax, open that HD player and I'll let the footy deliver the message by itself.
