Postby gramkracka22 on Tue Jan 05, 2010 3:00 am

im thinking of making a snowboard box similar to the one in this video
http://www.youtube.com/user/SNOWBOARDBO ... eitztbM7As

would they work well with snowskates aswell and does ne1 have ne experience with them (like wether or not u like them, if u have one, etc.)

i dont need the fancy plastic (cant remember name) do i? can i just use plywood on top and cover that with some snow/water?

Whatever you do, I would strongly suggest covering your box with a slippery surface. Plywood just doesn't make the cut, unless you take the time to ice it up. And even then, it doesn't work half as good. Spend 10$ on a sheet of melamine, your box will always ride great and it's super easy to install.

Look in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2017

It has 2 boxes that i built just scroll down. The snowskate box is 2 feet wide by 8 feet long.

HDPE is not necesary. first of all its super expensive (70 bucks for a 4'x8'), its really hard to work with countersinking and stuff, and lastly, it warps pretty bad if its in the sun.

Just use melamine like alex said. Its slides just as good as hdpe.

I just made this one tonight, it's 6' long and 15" wide. 5" tall right now, thinking about making it an even foot. Used a melamine board and 2x4's. 20 bucks in all. :P

man thats awsome..i like ur box cause i wont have to build some HUGE frame like alot of snowboard boxes

2 questions
1) what do u use to attatch the melamine to the base
2) should i use pressure treated wood or no, i cant remember which is the better one for outdoors

1. The Melamine is a basically a piece of coated fiberboard, I predrilled holes and used wood screws to attach it. You don't see them because they are countersunk and filled.
2. Pressure treated wood is better, yes.

I did build a good frame under the melamine, I was afraid of hitting it hard and having it cave on me, if you're using this I would highly recommend having some strong framing.
