Base repair question

Postby TillerNiller on Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:15 am

I read on here about scraping the base and I have a couple quick questions.

I dont think id be able to get to a hardware store and purchase a putty knife or something like that so I was wondering if these would work

Also I saw these and I was wondering if they would be able to fix major gashes that the scraper wont

The p-tex sticks would work but only on the parts without the grooves.

Nah, doesn't really work on ambitions cause they use extruded base.

Take a pair of scissors and run then from nose to tail along the edges. The scissors you use matter -- don't use anything too sharp and they'll take too much base material away. For the first few passes, run them parallel to the base at the edge in smooth constant motions to shave away any pieces of the base that are sticking out. Step 2 is to do the same thing at a perpendicular angle to the base (parallel with the exposed wood plies) to shave the edge of the base back to a 90 degree angle, just like when it was new. I Find this is required every week or 2 if you tend to ride a lot of street, and will certainly keep your board faster.

I just go from nose to tail but yep, you can prolonge the life of your board very long by doing that.

yeh, the scrapers will work but you could also use a flat kitchen knife or as they said, a pair of scissors. And dont try filling up your scratches and holes with those plastic sticks cuz it will make your board worse, but honestly just give your board a good waxing and you should be fine for a few weeks.
